Austrian Mountain Portrait Photography

Finally, I have managed to post some images from the photo shoot from our holiday in Austria. Last year we went for a skiing break in Solden and as we were there, I had to try out some portraits. After several days of reccie, Katie, my stepdaughter, and I found a perfect spot near Tiefenbachkogl, 3200 meters from the sea level with magnificent panoramic views. It took us 45 minutes to get to the right spot with mountain lifts and skis. Once the skis were off it was almost impossible to walk around in the snow. It was deep, off piste and we sank in the snow like it was a ‘quick sand’. The sun light was super harsh and we struggled to stay still due to the very strong wind. Passersby thought we were crazy and stupid.

As the conditions were fairly severe and I was able to move around mainly by crawling, I just used one camera and my 35mm f1.4 lens.

The most noteworthy fact is Katie’s courage to hang around on the edge of a cliff in a freezing cold and patiently follow my instructions.

After some time on the cliff we headed straight to the closest cafe on the slope for a shot of Jagermeister and hot chocolate. We managed to avoid frost bite and safely travel back to our chalet for a well deserved rest & food.
